Amsterdam is one of the greatest small cities in the world. From its canals to world-famous museums and historical sights, Amsterdam is one of the most romantic and beautiful cities in Europe. Amsterdam is an unusual city in that it has all the advantages of a big city – culture, history, food, entertainment, good transport – with relatively few of the disadvantages: it is physically small, beautiful, relatively quiet, and largely thanks to the canals, has relatively little traffic.
The Bed and Breakfast is getting more popular in Amsterdam every year. Amsterdam has a broad spectrum of recreational and cultural sights that range from fascinating old buildings, like the Oude Kerk, to oddities such as the Hash Marihuana Museum.
The Dam is one of Amsterdam’s oldest areas. In the 13th century, fishermen living along the Amstel constructed a bridge across the river, to which the Dam owes its name. This square was used as a central market, where the citizens of Amsterdam could buy all their groceries. This market no longer exists; nowadays, the square is the setting of special events, such as concerts at Liberation Day or the Amsterdam fair.
